Universal Science & Art of Kriya Yoga
Based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda
Ananda was founded in California 40 years ago by Swami Kriyananda, a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda of 60 years. Yogananda came to America in the 1920's to highlight the common thread in the underlying essence of all spiritual paths. The path of Kriya yoga stresses the necessity of devotion and love for God in combination with scientific techniques of meditation in order to realize our highest Self - to realize that indeed "The Kingdom of God is within".
If you are looking for more peace, more joy, and more love in your life, please look around our site and consider visiting with us at one of our Sunday Meditation Groups.

Scripture that Will Change the World |

Revelations of Christ
Rarely in a lifetime does a new spiritual classic appear that has the power to change people's lives and transform future generations. This is such a book. This galvanizing book, presents the teachings of Christ from the experience and perspective of Paramhansa Yogananda, one of the greatest spiritual masters of the twentieth century, finally offers the fresh perspective on Christ's teachings for which the world has been waiting. This book presents us with an opportunity to understand and apply the Scriptures in a more reliable way than any other: by studying under those saints who have communed directly, in deep ecstasy, with Christ and God. |

The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita
This revelation of India's best-loved scripture approaches this spiritual classic from an entirely fresh perspective, showing its deep allegorical meaning and also its down-to-earth practicality. The themes presented are universal: how to achieve victory in life in union with the divine; how to prepare for life's "final exam," death, and what happens afterward; how to triumph over all pain and suffering. This book is itself a triumph. Swami Kriyananda worked with Paramhansa Yogananda in 1950 while the Master completed his commentary. At that time Yogananda commissioned him to disseminate his teachings world-wide. Kriyananda has in his lifetime lectured, taught, and written eighty-five books based on Yogananda's teachings.

Divine Mother: "The Living Kali"
"Mother with lotus feet!" he cried. "Mother with hair spread like rays in blessing over creation, sweeping to nothingness men's sorrows! Mother with light of laughter dancing in Your eyes! Mother, whose smiles twinkle in a myriad stars! Your child is calling You; Your little child longs for Your love. O Mother Divine, come to me! Tear asunder this veil of darkness which hides you from me!" >>

Devotion
In the quest for God, the unfolding of the heart's natural love, in the form of deep devotion, is the prime requisite for success. Without devotion, not a single step can be taken towards Him. Devotion is no sentiment: It is the deep longing to commune with, and know, the only Reality there is. >>

Ways in Which God Can Be Worshiped
"The Infinite is the Mother behind all human mothers, the true Father behind all human fathers. He is the ever-loyal Friend behind all earthly friends. He is the eternal Beloved behind all human loves. He is all things to all men, because, you see, the Lord is everything." >>

The Blissful Devotee and His Cosmic Romance
Beyond reach of doubt, I was convinced that Master Mahasaya was in intimate converse with the Universal Mother. It was deep humiliation to realize that my eyes were blind to Her who even at this moment was perceptible to the faultless gaze of the saint. Shamelessly gripping his feet, deaf to his gentle remonstrances, I besought him again and again for his intervening grace.. >>

Ananda Ohio Campout / Retreat
August 4 - 6, 2006
What a joyful experience I had camping and meditating with our friends of the Ananda Columbus meditation group. Thanks go out to Mike & Mary Ann for making their lovely, rural property in the foothills of the Appalachians available for our yoga activities and fun - also a thank you for the cooler temperatures and clear weather.
After pitching tents, a snack, welcoming evening campfire and settling in, the next morning found us "awake and ready" for our Saturday retreat activities. We joined together for meditation, then a work project with Mike (followed by flopping, considerable napping and wrestling with the dogs in the cool grass:), next a "forest" hatha yoga class with Mary Ann (complete with music by Steven Halprin:) and topped off with a trip into town for a parade (and local culture) in nearby Lewisville, OH. Sunday morning we concluded our weekend with a Worship Service and the Festival of Light by Jack Byrom & Doug Smith. Thank you all for your many contributions.
With the campfires, chanting, spiritual upliftment, fabulous meals and warm friendship, we all felt the glow that comes from joining together and sharing our lives in Spirit.

Ananda Michigan Weekend
July 22 - 23, 2006
We had a wonderful time in Michigan, with over 25 people attending. The Saturday morning class with Jaya Helin was on "how building outer spiritual community helps develop our inner relationship with Spirit." Lorne Dekun (director of Ananda Michigan) joined Jaya in the afternoon class for an informative, lively and fun filled, "Commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita" class. On the following morning, the Sunday Service subject was "Do you need a Guru?," followed by the "festival of light." During the adult service the children enjoyed the "Living Wisdom" Sunday School lead by Judy Dekun and both groups joined together in singing and blessings to conclude the service.
